2002 Cherokee Trails Scca Pro Rally Tiburon

Hyundai Rally
In 1969, a young Army Lieutenant named John Buffum was the only American entered in the Monte Carlo Rally. He finished 12th and garnered headlines in "The New York Times." Buffum returned to the United States and eventually won 11 ProRally National Championships and his Libra Racing prepared the cars for Paul Choiniere's eight championships. Buffum also continued to enter World Championship events and, in 2000, had the opportunity to compete in a WRC event in each of the last five decades.

Buffum's latest projects are the two all-new 2003 Tiburons Hyundai Rally Team USA introduced at Cherokee Trails. Work began on the cars in December when the new bodies were delivered to Buffum's Libra Racing, but Buffum knew there wouldn't be enough time to build two cars and still ready the current cars for Sno*Drift, so he engaged his old friend Dom Buckley to build one of the Tiburons. Buffum immediately sent one of the two Tiburons to the Buckley Motorsport shop in Scotland and both crews got to work. A great deal of cross-Atlantic communication ensued.
