SEMA 2005 - Auto Show

The Best New Stuff

On the topic of innovation, TurboXS has combined fuel control and boost control into one compact unit. Using the Gameboy Advance SP as a base, the controller adjusts the Air/Fuel Ratio by modifying the airflow meter/MAP sensor signal. The boost control can be gear, RPM, and throttle position dependent. It comes standard with a detonation detector. Advanced features include the ability to store and switch between five different boost maps: scramble mode, overboost protection, and a "start boost" feature to speed turbo spool time and gain control.

Get that racecar steering feel with Quaife America's QSR Quick-Ratio rack and pinion kit. The QSR replaces the internals on OEM non-power steering rack and pinion units. Quaife offers a kit for '88-91 Honda Civics (2.83 turns lock-to-lock), and '92-95 Civics and '94-01 Integras (3.25 turns lock-to-lock.) Quaife also offers an application for '83-87 Toyota AE86 Corollas.

One of this year's tuner favorites was Mitsubishi's fourth gen. Eclipse. GReddy brought out a tuned version with a prototype turbo kit. GReddy also debuted its axle-back DT-Muffler with its tunable secondary exhaust for sound and flow.

F2 Focus Performance brought out a twin-sequential turbo Duratec Focus sedan. Its probably overkill, but beautifully plumbed regardless.

More madness from Full-Race Motorsports; this time for Nissan SR20DETs. The kit features a full tubular stainless-steel turbo manifold and four turbo options including a GT40R. Full-race, indeed.

Full Race was out in full force at SEMA this year, introducing a barrage of high performance parts for the hardcore gear head. Our favorite was the intake manifold designed for Honda's B16 engine, which was engineered with parameters such as engine displacement, cylinder head flow characteristics, camshaft profiles, and engine resonance in mind-resulting in what Full Race says is a responsive and high-flowing manifold. Full Race states that increases can be had across the entire powerband. This manifold retains the use of all stock Honda sensors, including the idle control system and throttle body.

Pi Research showed off its steering wheel mounted mini dashboard, which can be used as a stand-alone dash or as part of a data logging system. Displays include: lap times and numbers, speed, minimum and maximum straight and corner speeds, gear position, RPM and ultra-bright shift lights. The unit can show segment time, entire session time, wheel speed and up to two temperature and two pressure sensor inputs. The information can be downloaded to your PC to compare each individual outing.

Not all is lost for Scion tC performance. Ingalls Engineering released a steel shock-tower brace for the Scion tC that double-triangulates the rear shock towers in the hatch area. The high-strength steel construction and welded brackets offer maximum support to help take the slop out of the tC's open body design.
