SEMA 2006 - Day One
Day one of the SEMA 2006 show saw many new trends that are arising in the scene. No longer are crazy paint jobs and conversions the craze. Purpose built cars with function in mind seem to be the trend that everyone is replicating throughout the show floor. This year's hottest vehicle is most definitely the Honda Fit. Honda themselves handed some out for customization and some of the top builders brought out some of the craziest designs ever. On Honda's show floor included a Skunk2 prepped Fit, Drag Cartel's camouflage themed Fit, the Tjin Edition Unique Fit and many more. Full cages have definitely caught on and as we guessed, custom fabrication has really found its home in the sport compact world. Honda also debut the limited edition Mugen Si sedan sporting plenty of Mugen goods. The Modified Magazine Project Integra was also debut in the Chargespeed booth sporting a right hand drive conversion, K series engine swap and a full custom fabricated roll cage. Keep your eyes out in future issues of Modified Magazine as we go indepth on how everything was done to this one of a kind sedan.
Scion brought out their two drag cars from Team Titan and Horizon Motorsports - Leslie Armendariz's All Motor tC. Chris Rado debut his track prepped Time Attack tC, while a trio of customized xBs also grabbed attention. The xA build off from three different car clubs across the nation was also seen in the booth, thanks to Jade Crew, WR Team and Team Hybrid. Alongside Scion and Hondas subcompacts, the Toyota Yaris made a splash among manufacturers as well. Kaminari and TEIN are just some of the few that sported customized Yaris' on the show floor.
Other announcements included Hankook's newest drift vehicle, a Porsche that's been converted to drift spec with Tyler McQuarrie behind the wheel. AEM proudly displayed their '06 Civic Si track car and the drift 350Z that Tanner Foust had campaigned throughout the 2006 Formula D season. GReddy brought out two clean cars showcasing their products, an EVO IX and S2000 with their new turbo kit. HKS also showed the customizing options of the Fit by doing one of their own.
This is just a mere touch on what SEMA had to offer this year, but it's without a doubt in our minds that subcompacts are making a huge impression and the manufacturers are loving it. Check out day one's gallery and stay tuned with our live video updates and what else SEMA has to offer this week!
