HKS has dedicated a lot of effort in developing tuning parts for the new GT-R. Its black R35, with Nob Taniguchi behind the wheel, has become the fastest new-gen GT-R in Japan. It managed a time of 1:47.126 time at Fuji Speedway, but the best it could do at the Premium Day was 1:48.492.

It all started back in 2008 when HKS held a unique event at Fuji Speedway to celebrate its 25th anniversary, giving birth to the now annual Premium Day. For 2010, things got really special. On top of record participation from tuning shops that have used HKS parts on their cars for years, Option magazine came on board and organized a special Super Lap time attack session, pitting some of the country's fastest demo cars against one another.

The paddock was full of stunning cars belonging to shops, as well as privateers, to participate in the Hyper Challenge track day sessions that allow enthusiasts to enjoy their high-powered machines in the safety of some of the most well-known racetracks in Japan. The variety of cars on display was mind-boggling, ranging from highly tuned sports cars all the way to supercharged luxury sedans like HKS' own Lexus LS460; there were even a few tuned hybrids.

The action kept going over on the drift course where amateurs practiced their sliding skills, highlighted by a quick drift exhibition from professional drivers like Taniguchi, Ueno and Okachan. With such a spectacular turn out and nonstop action, HKS Premium Day proved that the tuning industry is still very much alive and thriving despite the economic hardships Japan has seen.
