Site: Streets of long beach, CA It seems like just yesterday the drift thing was getting started in the States. It's hard to believe the Formula DRIFT racing series is now in it's seventh season, and what a long way it has come! The Fatlace One of One car show set the scene in the morning, and as practice began on track, the smell of burning rubber and haze of tire smoke filled the air over the Port of Long Beach; the sold-out crowd was treated to an exciting weekend of sideways action.

During qualifying, more than 50 cars duked it out on track - it was anyone's game. No one had a position in the top 32 set in stone. Competition was fierce, with many new drivers for 2010 getting their first taste of driving in the pros, but at the end of day one, veteran drivers Rhys Millen and Tyler McQuarrie ended up on top.

Throughout the finals, no one held anything back. Two-time Formula DRIFT champion Tanner Foust managed to beat out rookie driver Frederic Aasbo to take third place on the podium, piloting his V-8-powered Scion with style. The final bout went down between Rhys Millen and Vaughn Gitten Jr. The two veteran Formula DRIFT drivers went all out, holding nothing back in the intense battle for first place.

When the smoke cleared, Vaughn Gitten Jr. came through with the victory, sliding his new Ford Mustang into the first win for the all-new car. Stay tuned for more from Gitten and the rest of the Formula DRIFT teams as the year progresses - the action-packed series never disappoints!
