On The Road To Recovery, This Early Civic Si Takes On A New Personality

The flywheel was sent to Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) for a crash diet. ACT lightened it by 5 lbs without compromising the structural integrity, and shipped it back to Walker with a matching Xtreme pressure plate and clutch.Pounding the tarmac are a set of 205/40-17 Nitto NT555 tires mounted on Kosei's seven-spoke Racing Senekas. A set of Neuspeed 2-inch lowering springs work in concert with Koni five-way adjustable shocks, producing cat-like reflexes without punishing the occupants. Up front, a set of Acura Integra calipers, rotors and spindles were fitted to help preserve the equipoise between acceleration and deceleration.

When it came time to touch up the engine compartment, Walker enlisted the help of another friend, Cory Carlisle. In his quest to keep over-spray to a minimal, Cory ended up airbrushing every nook and cranny of the bay to make it a non-factor. More pizzazz was added using various powdercoated and polished parts.

Wanting a timeless hue that won't fade with time, a classic shade of BRG (British racing green) was selected to coat the Wings West kit adorned body. The theme is continued into the interior, where Diamond Auto Upholstery of Roseburg, Ore., put its skills to work splashing the interior with complementing colors and SiR stitching.

The finished project is clean, classy and according to Walker, can sit in traffic all day long with the air conditioner and music blasting, or hit the strips in 14.78 at 92 mph. Not bad for a compact that nearly ended as a parts car in a junkyard.
