Brett Norgaard's 1984 Honda CRX- Weekend Motorsports

Where The Tires Meet The Track

By Danielle Engstrom

The engine is a 1985 Honda CRX, 1488cc, 12-valve that was built by King Motorsports and tuned by Tri Point Engineering. An Electromotive TEC-II system handles fuel and ignition management. Internal engine modifications include a complete blueprint and balance, overbore Honda pistons, a milled head and surfaced block, intake and exhaust valves port matched, a 1985 Honda CRX Si R1 camshaft, a valve job and all-new internal components, including valve guides, seals, gaskets, etc. Numerous components and replacement parts have been supplied by HAP Honda/Acura Parts Recycling over the past four years.

External engine modifications include a Moroso baffled 5-quart oil pan, a Mugen 4-2-1 header with thermal coating, custom 2.25-inch mandrel-bent exhaust with carbon fiber Sebring muffler, TWM 2900-2910 series individual 40 mm throttle bodies with manifold and adjustable fuel regulator, all custom-braided fuel lines and filter, a Comptech alternator under-drive pulley, MSD Ignition spark plug wires and NGK spark plugs.

The transmission is from his 1987 CRX Si with new syncros and a Mugen limited-slip differential, Mueller Fabricating aluminum flywheel (7 lbs.) and a stock Honda clutch (soon to be replaced with a Mueller Fab./McCloud "Red Head"billet clutch).

Suspension mods include an ATR (About Time Racing, Norgaard's own label) adjustable rear anti-roll bar, an ATR adjustable panhard rod, custom Koni front shocks and rear struts with coil-over conversion parts from Ground Control, custom coils, 27 mm Schroeder torsion bars, custom camber/caster plates with upper strut tie brace, Mugen suspension bushings and new Honda wheel bearings.

Norgaard's Honda is shod with 13x8.5-inch, three-piece Panasport Ultra Lights (8.5 lbs each) wearing Hoosier bias-ply 225/45-13 autocross compound tires, attached to Moroso extended wheel studs. The brake discs are stock with Carbotech "Bob Cat" pads and ATR steel-braided brakelines. Inside Norgaard's Honda, you will find Sparco Pro 2000 seats, a Sparco steering wheel, Auto Meter "Smart" tachometer, water temp, oil pressure and fuel pressure gauges, as well as a Jet Works personal watercraft battery located in the trunk storage compartment with custom battery cables by Starr Rebuilders.
