The original suspension components were tossed in favor of an infinitely tunable system comprised of JIC FLTA2 coil-overs, Rigid front and rear strut tower braces, Cusco front and rear anti-roll bars, Perrin anti-roll bar links and a JIC V2 lower arm bar. Dan reports this system is good for much faster lap times at Arizona Motorsports Park, where he and the EVO visit at least twice a month.
To make sure the new king isn't wounded in combat, Dan and Rob ditched the stock brakes in favor of the new StopTech Four-Wheel Big Brake Kit. Bigger than the already huge O.E. Brembos, the kit includes four-piston front and rear calipers and 330mm x 32mm front/328mm x 30 cross-drilled rotors. For added safety, Motul brake fluid and steel braided lines were used; for more pizzazz, the calipers were painted blue. Bronze 18x8.5-inch Advan RG Gold wheels complement the EVO's understated style, and BFGoodrich 245/40ZR-18 g-Force T/A KDW tires provide the stick.
With the mechanicals handled, it was time to let all of Tempe know there was a new king in town, and he likes fancy duds. Dan and Rob dressed the car in a full C-West body kit, carbon-fiber hood, Japanese Ganador mirrors and a Monster Sport carbon-fiber decklid to get the JDM look. Finishing touches are Vivid Racing graphics and JDM taillights, antenna and badging.
Dan and Rob also wanted the interior to be special, so they installed red Bride reclinable Brix seats, Takata harnesses, a Ralliart instrument cluster and Blitz boost, EGT and fuel pressure gauges. For the show crowd, the EVO got a Clarion 1035 DVD player with 7-inch screen, MB Quart speakers, Rockford Fosgate amps and a custom trunk enclosure with Rockford-Fosgate 12-inch subwoofers. Dan and Rob also installed an integrated VUZ Racing camera system to record the car's ascent to the throne.
Whatever happened to the blue WRX project car? Well, it abdicated its throne and moved to a different kingdom. Translation: It was sold. We hope its new home isn't too close to Tempe, otherwise another bloody coup d'EVO is certainly on the horizon.
The king is dead. Long live the king.
