For tunes the stock stereo just wouldn't do, so Gregg forked over the bread for a voice control Pioneer Avic D1 with navigation, g-meter, DVD and remote control, which is mounted on the steering wheel. Kicker got his business for the speakers, amplifier and other components.
For gauges Gregg went with a Dfi gauge pod and filled it with dials measuring exhaust gas temperature, fuel pressure and boost.
When it was all finished, Gregg drove the car 350 miles north to the Mazda Extreme event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, where he won Best Subaru. Since then the STi has been pulling commuter duty in and around Southern California. "I built the car to drag and road race but never found the time," Gregg says. "But once you have the sickness, I mean passion, you can't escape it."
Poor Gregg; on any given day this guy rolls out of bed and drives either this STi or his built EVO RS to his dream job at Toyo. It would be a shame to mess all that up with some details of his pushrod past. Don't worry, pal, we won't tell anyone about that '78 Camaro.
