Brian's not into taking risks, and considering his car doesn't officially exist on this side of the Pacific, replacement parts are a royal pain in the ass to obtain, even if he is a shop owner.
So he chose to restrict his horsepower boosters to a few tuners that have been around since the dawn of time. GReddy checks in with a Type-RS blow-off valve to relieve compressed air from the intake piping, and an oil cooler to keep temps down at the track. GReddy spark plugs ensure that the pressurized mix explodes as quickly and violently as possible.
After receiving the wrong intake from ARC twice, and waiting a total of seven months, Brian finally had the ARC cool-air intake he was looking for. Apparently it was difficult for the guys in Japan to understand that there was an EVO III in the US, so they kept adding a "V", and sending the EVO VIII intake.
The EVO III relieves itself of spent gasses by way of an RS R 80mm exhaust, coupled with an RS R downpipe. A lightweight flywheel and clutch from ACT round out the package, and well, that's pretty much it.
The few engine modifications on the otherwise stock EVO III amounted to 290-wheel hp at 6450 rpm on Tuning Technologies' Dynojet 244X. There's something to be said for light weight. What ever happened to that, anyway?
When you're starting with a car that only exists so its brothers can play in the WRC, there's not much sense in straying from the original formula too much. The little EVO did a great job of proving that a few light modifications to a tried and true system can go a long way, especially on the track.

This particular EVO is no stranger to the dusty mountainside that hides the long corners of Willow Springs in its shadow.
