2007 Mini Cooper S

By James Tate

Headlights now house blinkers and front bumper has larger intakes, creating a 'smile'. Radiator grille is now one complete unit compared with the split set-up of the previous car.

Voice-entry navigation within the speedometer and auxiliary jack for MP3 player.

New aluminum rear suspension weighs 13 pounds less. Optional sports suspension with stiffer springs and dampers as well as larger anti-roll bars.

The engine sports a few high-end goodies such as sodium-filled valves, an infinitely variable intake camshaft and most modern, direct fuel injection. Astonishingly, the turbocharged engine has a compression ratio of 10.5:1. Add to that the twin-scroll turbocharger pumping 11.6psi into the cylinders. Without the direct injection, it would be a grenade waiting to blow.
