Nissan Skyline GT-R - No Limits

Proving that ad slogans are more than tired clichés, Rob Hane from No Limit Motorsport built a Skyline GT-R to be all it can be.

In a world saturated by advertising slogans, chances are you’ve heard them all. “Just Do It.” “Be All You Can Be.” “Accelerate Your Life.” “Impossible Is Nothing.” “The Power Of Dreams.” The list goes on and on, and the central themes of many of these slogans include living up to your potential, living life to the fullest, and approaching life as if it has no limits.

Clearly these are philosophies shared by Rob Hane, owner of No Limit Motorsport and the man who decided to “just do it” so that his incredible V-Spec 1995 Nissan Skyline GT-R could “accelerate his life” and “be all it could be”. Ok, ok, I’ll ease up on the ad slogans, but you get the point. Rob is an uncompromising kind of guy, and his R33 GT-R is a reflection of his pursuit of excellence and appreciation for living life to the max.

Back in 2001, Rob started No Limit Motorsport as a home-based internet business, selling performance parts online to go-fast geeks like you and me. In 2002 he opened up a retail location and expanded his web business, and over the following four and half years No Limit grew so quickly that he eventually moved into his current location in Medford, New York (about an hour from NYC), where he and his 7 full-time and 4 part-time employees not only sell performance parts but also install them and offer dyno tuning services on their AWD Dyno Dynamics machine.

While building No Limit into one of the leading performance parts vendors and tuning shops in the northeast, Rob was also working on acquiring a Skyline GT-R for himself. “At the time [2004], nothing else really appealed to me, had the kind of serious power I wanted, and was different from what everybody else was driving”. After an aborted attempt to buy a GT-R through RB Motoring and Motorex, a buddy of Rob’s pointed him towards a R33 GT-R for sale in Pennsylvania. As Rob described, “I went to look at it on a Wednesday and drove it home on a Friday. It happened that fast.”

Buying a full legalized and plated R33 GT-R is a dream come true for most of us, but for Rob it was only the beginning. “I daily drove the car for about the first two years, leaving it basically stock, but then I upgraded to a single turbo setup, built the motor for big power, and kept on going from there.” The “be all you can be” RB26 engine build is based around many of the top shelf tuner parts No Limit sells, including a HKS T51R ball bearing single turbo kit, 60mm race external wastegate, 4-inch downpipe, high flow fuel rails with dual inlets, Twin Power DLI ignition amplifier, and 272 degree camshafts. In order to handle the huge boost pressure this setup is capable of producing, the bottom end has been reinforced with Wiseco 87mm pistons with upgraded wrist pins and coating, Carrillo I-beam rods with Carr bolts, Nismo main and rod bearings, and ARP main and head studs as well as a Cometic 051-inch head gasket. Airflow and RPM capabilities have also been improved via Supertech 1mm oversized intake and exhaust valves along with Ferrea dual valve springs, titanium retainers, and seat locators and locks. And as you’d expect with a build of this quality, all the other fuel, oiling and cooling mods required to make big power are also in place.
