To fulfill the “more power” requirement, they installed one of their very own Harman Motive rotated turbo kits. This includes an FMIC, a Tial 44mm V-band wastegate, a trick downpipe with wastegate recirculation and a hearty Garrett GT3582R turbocharger. To get everything optimized, the stock ECU was reprogrammed with a Cobb Accessport to the tune of 525 whp and 460 ft-lbs of torque. While you might expect that kind of power to be hard on the drivetrain, the car has performed reliably with stock differentials and axles—the only upgrade being an ACT clutch and flywheel package. The fuel system, however, did need some help.According to Dan, “Subarus have a bad habit of sucking air from the tank when going through hard turns. To combat this, we madea custom surge tank that is fed by a Walbro 255-lph pump mounted inside the stock gas tank. This fills a 1.5-quart aluminum surge tank that then feeds a Bosch 044 motorsports pump. This effectively eliminated the problem.”
The guys are pretty quiet when it comes to weight savings, but we suspect that as in other Street class cars, hidden things like airbags and insulation have been removed from under those stock-looking panels. Sparco seats and harnesses hold everyone in place while an array of AEM and Defi gauges monitor the engine vitals. Some minor aerodynamic alterations have been made to the factory hood and rear wing, and it’s hard to miss the Kognition front splitter which hangs below the factory front bumper. This will change soon, though, as Harman Motive has just sourced a Zero Sports widebody kit from EDO Performance in preparation for a full-on assault of the Modified and Limited time attack classes this year.
Never short for words, JC had this to say about the progress so far, “We have been very fortunate to have never suffered a DNF at any race over the past two years. We did have a few hurdles and challenges, but it was nothing that we couldn’t handle in time to make the races. I attribute the incredible preparation and tuning to Harman Motive and all of our awesome sponsors and helpers.”
