Project Subaru Impreza 2.5RS
Years of JDM WRX envy and rally mania brought about this project. We eventually threw together a turbo kit for the naturally aspirated engine, using a hodge podge of aftermarket parts and stock WRX hardware, and learned just how interchangeable Subaru parts could be. Then the WRX came and made it all moot.
Project 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI
The first of our flat black lead sleds, our STi got the stealth paint and several suspension packages. Ultimately, it was towed to its death when we figured out how to liquefy its DCCD.
Project Toyota Celica (LeMons)
By far the most fun car we've had, this Celica got stripped down, prepped in one month, and survived the inaugural 24 Hours of LeMons race, only to be crushed later.
Project Toyota Celica GT-S
Intake, exhaust, brakes, and suspension: This car was good enough that it didn't need much more.
Project Toyota Matrix
Our take on how a lifestyle wagon should be, this turbocharged Matrix turned out to be our first crash course in dealing with returnless fuel systems and variable cam timing. It ultimately succumbed to boost and blow-by.
Project Toyota Supra Turbo Rally
More of a sponsorship than a project car, this pro level Group 5 rally car nevertheless was listed as a project car, although we never touched a bolt on it.
Project Toyota Corolla (AE110)
While not hopeless, this Corolla was almost bottom of the barrel when it came to project cars. But we tried regardless and ended up with a TRD suspension and some over the counter dealership aero bits.
Project Toyota MR2 Turbo
The first of our cars to break the 400 whp mark, this SW20 went through more turbos than most of our cars go through tires, but it was a first for introducing the concept of turbo sizing.
Project Volvo S40
Five cylinders, turbocharged, and with four doors: We had to try our hand at the new Focus-based compact Volvo. The results were less than spectacular.
Project Toyota Corolla (AE86)
Since the departure of Project Rally Beater, we decided we needed a new rusting heap. Since then, we've been finding ways to re-engineer the two decade old suspension and making a slow but spectacular drive out of it.
Project Toyota MR2 Spyder
Perhaps the most successful of our project cars, the little go-kart was able to hold off the Lotus Elise nipping at our heels on the road course.
Project Volkswagen Golf GL
One of our early euros, this A3 Golf was the basis of a full chip shootout and some minor suspension work.
