The sleek, all-new, fourth-generation ’12 Subaru Impreza was another spotlight-stealer at NYIAS. Available in a 4-door sedan and 5-door hatch configuration, the fresh Impreza represents a bolder, more dynamic design and an all-new powertrain that bumps fuel efficiency by 30 percent while also delivering improved performance.
With motivation supplied by an all-new 148hp 2.0-liter Boxer engine, the ’12 Impreza comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission or the second-generation Lineartronic CVT. The ’12 Impreza will offer the highest fuel economy of any AWD car in America, with projected EPA ratings of 27/36 mpg (city/highway).
Richer-looking appointments and details abound inside, including soft-touch materials, loads of storage nooks and plenty of cargo area. Although not the tuning juggernaut of its WRX brethren, the Impreza packs a lot of value into one package. It is slated to hit showrooms this fall.
