The Berk Technology team headed out to Buttonwillow this past weekend for the Global Time Attack event with its BMW 135i aiming to set records. Armed with Carl Rydquist behind the wheel, the 135i pulled double duty competing in the Limited RWD and Street RWD classes. The team was more than pleased with the results, as the team not only took first place trophies home in both classes, but set new class records in the process. For the first time in the history of time attack the same car and driver has taken home two records in two separate classes, on the same race weekend. Hankook Tires were used in breaking both records, the Ventus RS3 and the newly released Ventus TD R-Comp tire.
In the Street RWD class Carl Rydquist and the Berk Technology BMW 135i had a formidable opponent with Grand Am driving ace VJ Mirzayan competing in the Evolution Racewerks BMW 135i. Rydquist was able to pilot the Berk Technology 135i to a record breaking 1:56.591 lap time on the Hankook’s RS3 street tire, besting Mirzayan’s attempt by nearly a full second.
Once Hankook’s all-new Ventus TD tire made their way onto the BMW in the Limited RWD class the team laid down a blistering and again record breaking 1:52.487 lap time. Second place in the Limited RWD class came from Japanese superstar Eiji “Tarzan” Yamada, piloting the Platte Forme a.g. supercharged BMW M3 with a time of 1:54.737.
“First and foremost I’m really thankful for the entire team’s effort and their continued level of excellent car prep. Secondly, the extremely hot weather conditions were far from ideal for any lap record to be broken, yet the just released Hankook Ventus TD tires seem to defy the laws of nature that we have known up until this race.” - Carl Rydquist - Driver, Berk Technology
