What's Up SCC Staff?
First off, I would like to congratulate Andy Hope on his win at Infineon Raceway in the Opak Racing/Spoon Sports RSX in the United States Touring Car Championship Series [Nov '08 issue - JL]. What a splendid race! I must say, I was on the edge of my seat watching the event on YouTube, and I even knew the outcome! I can tell by the way your article was written, that there is no way the memories and events of that day will ever leave you. Which I must say leaves me quite anxious to lead on with my own life journey, and pursue the possibility of one day becoming my boy-hood dream of being talented pro driver. I hope that one day I am given the opportunity to prove myself and let it all out on the track, lap after lap.
You see however, I am 19 years of age and do not come from a background of racing of any kind. Nor can I see the path for which I am to follow for my dreams. There are so many different classes of all kinds of racing, just how does someone without a karting background get a good opportunity? Are instructed schools the right path to meeting the correct people in the industry, or should I spend a small fortune on a small scale series and try to get my name out there? Do sanctioning bodies like the NASA or SCCA have scales for drivers to work their way to the top? Please SCC staff, any guidance at all would be greatly appreciated.
