It’s a tradition of sorts for automakers to offer de-contented or lightweight versions of production cars so they can be more readily converted to motorsports use. Such is the case with the Subaru BRZ, which will be sold in England with anemic, 16-inch steel wheels (racers or tuners will be swapping anyway), black bumpers and trim (crashed or swapped), and a cabin stripped of its audio system, air conditioning, and other trim bits. The stripper BRZ is reminiscent of the WRX TR from 2006, but Subaru has no plans to offer a TR version of the BRZ here. Conversely, the two versions of the BRZ Subaru will offer in the States will be targeting a more upscale buyer when compared with the FR-S.

It's not very often that an auto manufacturer will release "official" spy shots of their new vehicles, but Porsche has done just that. It's actually a very nice gesture, and it takes some guts on Porsche's part to do something like this. Kudos!

Willows, Calif. May 21, 2012 – Chris Lock, driving the Roger Kraus Racing Honda Prelude, won round two of the Nitto Tires United States Touring Car Championship (USTCC) at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California. This was Lock’s first USTCC win and he won the race as a rookie. Finishing in second position was the K-PAX/Auto Parts Warehouse Volvo C30 of Robert Thorne. Hyundai managed to score a first ever podium finish with the help of Ali Arsham who was driving the GoGoGear.com/DelCity.net/UTI Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

If you’re a fan of the British Touring Car Championship or the UK Time Attack series, then the name Brands Hatch will no doubt be familiar to you. And for you F1 fans out there, you probably associate Silverstone with the British GP, but it’s worth noting that starting in 1964, Brands Hatch was the home of Formula One in jolly old England every other year until 1986. But with growing concerns over track safety at Brands, Silverstone took over full-time duties as host of the British GP starting in 1987.

If you’ve ever replaced a clutch, then you know it’s a big job. Dropping the transmission out of most cars is both time consuming and physically taxing, given how heavy and awkward transmissions are to handle. Having done more than my fair share of clutch swaps over the years, a few especially memorable ones involving seized bolts and bloody knuckles, I think it’s reasonable to say this is a job few of us look forward to.

After months of development and testing, the Subaru PUMA Rallycross Team (SPRT) is ready to prove their mettle at this weekend's season opener of the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship (GRC), at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. Seasoned drivers Dave Mirra, and Sverre Isachsen, as well as Rallycross rookie Bucky Lasek will pilot their race-prepared Subaru WRX STIs against some stiff competition as they race head-to-head on a unique road course utilizing parts of the oval at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Marcus Grönholm confirmed his serious intent in the run-up to the first round of the 2012 Global Rallycross Series which commences this Friday and Saturday, part of the at the Coca-Cola 600 weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.

The new-versus-old debate lingers on, and with the Scion FR-S in the spotlight, it’s hard not to compare it with its much older sibling, the Toyota Corolla GT-S AE86. So we did just that, but instead of using a stock AE86, we upped the ante and brought a thoroughly modified version for two reasons. One, it’s damn near impossible to track down a stock-condition GT-S–version Corolla that we’d be able to flog on the track. And two, in our opinion, it’s a better comparison this way. Most AE86 owners aren’t running them stock, so why not use a car that enthusiasts would drive? With a powerplant that rivals the FR-S’ and all the other bolt-on goodies, this Hachiroku is a very worthy competitor.

I’ve always wanted a wagon that can make gobs of power, but I can still load up with shit from Home Depot and whoop up on a Mustang on my ride home. I was a Honda guy for 10+ years, and when I bought this car it really made me wonder why I was in a Honda for as long as I was — I’m now a Subaru guy for life!

John Says I bought this car four years ago locally from a retired teacher. It was 100 percent stock and stored for many years of its life. I daily drove it every day, slowly fixing up small things. A year later, I was ready to take on a project and was very attracted to the 3.0-liter Camry V-6 a small handful of people on the boards were swapping into these cars. The flat powerband of the engine and the torque it put out make for a very fun car and are quite competitive in autocross or track days. I bought a ’93 Toyota Camry shortly after, yanked the engine out and rebuilt it from the ground up with some simple breathing mods that allowed the “family car” V-6 to turn into a fire-breathing beast.

Dustin Says I wanted a car that was great looking, not over-the-top and still usable every day. I love that no one knows what my car really is, then I drop the clutch and it rockets off, leaving them in my dust with their jaws dropped. The Mazdaspeed 6 is a great handling car and is very fun to play with. This car is my weekend toy and is babied to the extreme, and I plan on having it for quite a long time. There are still some things I want to do to it in the future: upgrade to a twins-scroll turbo, a bigger brake setup with drilled and slotted rotors, a carbon-fiber hood/trunk lid, and even a widebody kit.

Ryan Says A child of the electronics age, I can contribute parts of my upbringing to the Nintendo and PlayStation2. Naturally, upon my discovery of the Gran Turismo series, I was hooked on Japanese sports cars. With my life savings of $10K in hand, I set out to find an AWD, turbocharged, manual transmission car to fulfill my passion. My 3000GT VR-4 was hiding in the local paper, under a short heading: “1994 3000GT VR-4: 120K miles, $10,000.” One visit and I was hooked — the car was mine within the week. It was completely stock and was suffering from bad spark blowout and a badly leaking stock BOV. Upon delivery of the car, I immediately started down the path of upgrading as I restored the it. Since then, I’ve been restoring the car while adding my own personal touches. Not liking my old, tired green paint, I took a chance and tried my hand and spray-painted the entire car matte black, and it came out great!

Steve Says I chose the Nissan 350Z because Datsun and Nissan models have been in my family for a long time. My dad had a Datsun 240Z, 280ZX and 280ZX Turbo, my mother had a 300ZX, and my first car was a ’95 240SE SE. My friend, Dennis Wittekind, led me to this car, which I purchased from the San Antonio Z Club President in 2010, purely based on its mint condition — a ’04 model with 27K original miles! Since buying the 350Z, which I’ve dubbed her “Zoey,” I have changed a few things and have daily driven the car with no trouble at all. I wanted something that was reliable, easy to drive, looked good and, most importantly, performed when it needed to. The “hellaflush” and “stance” movement looks good and all, but I prefer to keep my cars truly functional to what they were intended for: driving and performance. As far as future modifications go, I’m looking to change the wheel setup, a few more exterior things to wrap up the Nismo/track look, as well as getting around to some serious engine work.

Chris Says Residing in Manahawkin, NJ, I work as a mechanic at RDN Automotive, a small shop that’s one town over in Barnegat. I don’t really have a set schedule and the work environment is very laid back, but we’re still able to accomplish lots of quality work. When I set out on my search to find a car, I originally wanted a truck, but soon realized that it would be a waste of gas and money to get a truck that wouldn’t even see mud, due to lack of free time. I started to look for cars and came across the Subaru WRX. I had no prior knowledge about Subarus, so when I purchased my car it quickly became a learning experience. Over the past two years of owning my car, I’ve become quite the expert on Subarus and I’m always willing to share that knowledge with anyone who is interested. Throughout those years, I also began modding my car, starting with the basic intake, exhaust and tune, but quickly became power hungry and upgraded the turbo, fuel system and had my car pro tuned. That is where I am currently at today, and I am satisfied with the power I’m making, it is a very fun daily driver. All of my photos are taken by my good friend Tyler Sladen, who is an amazingly skilled photographer and never ceases to amaze me with the outcome of his work.

Scott Says I grew tired of seeing straight-line SRT-4s (not that there’s anything wrong with that) and decided to build mine with an autocross and time attack focus. I’ve been a Neon owner since I got my driver’s license, so it was a natural choice to stick with a platform I was familiar with. I love the underdog reputation that the car has and how much it always seems to be hated on. There are tons of Neons here in Nova Scotia, Canada, and I like the challenge of building one that stands out. I’ve changed a lot of people’s minds about these cars with one quick drive. This project is far from complete, so maybe I’ll have a shot at a magazine feature down the road!
