SEMA 2006 - Day Two
Story Jason Siu, Photos Modified Staff
As the Modified Team entered the SEMA Show for day two, we kept our eyes out for more rising trends and sport compact related news. Hitting up the wheel and tire hall we first stopped at Falken Tires' amazing booth. Surrounding the perimeter was a fleet of black shaded vehicles all with a VIP theme. Auto Luxury as Falken Tires would like to call it, they have teamed up with Air Runner, AME Wheels, TEIN, Alpine and Junction Produce to help push the VIP style forward. Their black RX-7 on AME wheels was one of the most menacing vehicles we've laid eyes on yet. Stay tuned as we hopefully get a chance to bring you more about the car.
Up next on our list, Formula D had announced their tentative schedule for 2007. Teaming up yet again with Champ Car, Formula D has listed five tentative events with Champ Car. April 15th in Long Beach, June 10th in Portland, June 24th in Cleveland, July 29th in San Jose and August 19th in Denver. Their regular competition schedule looks similar to 2006 with stops in Long Beach, Atlanta, Infineon, Seattle, Wall and Irwindale. Their event in June will be TBD.
Speaking of drifting, NOPI has officially announced their drift series. Stay tuned as they hold their conference on day three for further information in regards to that. In terms of drift vehicles, we were surprised to see not many new ones on display. Hubinette's Charger took center stage in the MOPAR booth. We were able to catch up with Tyler McQuarrie and the new Hankook / JIC Magic drift Porsche.
In other exciting news, Toyo Tires presented their new Proxes R888T tire to the market. The new R888 D.O.T.-legal competition tire was designed to deliver outstanding grip and consistency for quick lap times, making it ideal for use while road racing, at track days and at high-performance driving schools. The tires will be available in various sizes fitting wheels from 17 to 19 inche sizes.
Stay tuned with Modified.com as we continue to explore the gigantic SEMA show and discover more exciting cars, trends and announcements!
